The antagonists of The Never-ending Story, and its subsequent iterations, are Characters that act in opposition to the protagonists. The protagonists are traditionally the NeS Heroes. Antagonists of the story may be villains, actively committing evil deeds for selfish purposes. Or they may be anti-heroes, acting in their own, or for mysterious, reasons that may hinder the heroes' or simply not align with their moral codes. Antagonists have existed since NeS Page 1 in the form of Ares, god of war, who acted in opposition to the protagonists but has proven that he is far from a villainous character.
